A couple backyard plants in Las Vegas

Posted by joypog 8 (My Page) on

I just moved into Las Vegas from Houston and there are a few plants in my backyard that my bunny is fond of munching on.

I presume the middle plant is dandelion, but I don't know the top weed or bottom bush with red berries.

I'd appreciate any help IDing these to make sure the rabbit isn't getting herself into trouble!

Thanks!

1 Looks like Sonchus
2 Might be Lactuca sp.
3 Nandina domestica.

Do you mean the first is Lactuca and the second is sonchus?

I'm just looking at their pictures in wikipedia (I'm not a gardener by any stretch of the imagination)

The rabbit will love 1 & 2.

Cool, it seemed those were ok for her to eat!

As for the third one, I'll make sure she avoids it...though it will take a little work as she seems to like eating the dried leaves!

You could eat 1 & 2 yourself if you were hungry. I've eaten young Sonchus leaves in salad but they do get a bit prickly.
