Identification and Eradication (help!)

Hello!

The plant in the photo is taking over our yard! Last spring we pulled out everything we could see, but they have small little bulbs that are hard to get. After we did our best, we had landscapers come in and till everything up (we were installing a new landscape). We thought this would have taken care of it, but no! They have come back this year in all the same places. They are even stating to pop up in our lawn, which is very annoying. It's obvious we can't take care of it by pulling them out... A relative suggested that we smother them with cardboard, but that won't work for the ones coming up in our lawn. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Oh, and I do have a dog that goes out in the yard, in case that's relevant for herbicide info.

Thanks so much!

Arum italicum maybe?

Ditto that ID, you can send your surplus to me in Texas.

The ones in the lawn should be possible to control with constant mowing. Tilling them up is just about the worst thing since it simply spreads the tubers. The leaves will disappear in the summer as they go dormant.

the berries are poisonous so do not let them go to fruit if you have pets or young children in the yard.

Here is an old, long thread about what has and (mostly) hasn't worked for people:

i would get the very expensive applicator such as at the link ... type, not brand name.. think dollar store ...

remove product.. fill with undiluted round up ...

and put one or two drops on each leaf .. placed so it runs down the stalk ..

and do that once a month for the next year or two ... every time a new leaf emerges ...

eventually.. it will get the idea and die ...

replace RU in properly labeled container.. and rinse out the applicator.. between uses ..

thats how i got rid of poison ivy vine growing underground ...

and no .. it will not poison the surrounding soil ...

Thank you all very much for the quick responses. I especially appreciate the link to the past thread about this same situation. Based on that thread, it looks like most people are recommending Round Up (applied in late growing season, and applied over multiple years). I didn't see any mention of smothering with cardboard... Do you think that would work? Would it be more or less effort than the Round Up? I should have mentioned this previously, but the area that needs to be treated is about 30 ft. by 10 ft.

Thanks!
