Early Flowers

These plants from this morning's walk were about 7 inches across and less than 5 inches high. They were growing in a sunny ditch. Each inflorescence was about 0.75 inch across, with more than 50 flowers. Flower color was indeterminate. Basal leaves were petiolate and deeply cut, with a few widely scattered, very small trichomes around the perimeter. Cauline leaves were sessile to slightly clasping. All leaves were glabrous.

Oh, like maybe Barbarea verna? I'll have to check back later and see what it becomes. Thanks, flora.

Crucifers are host plants to Mustard White Butterflies.
They're also tasty in salads or lightly cooked.

Leafhead, you must live close to the Great Lakes, if you're familiar with Pieris oleracea.

Yes, Madison, Wi.
We don't have a green thing up here, except our Conifers.
More snow expected next Tuesday... Sigh
Oh well, I still have my indoor plants:)
