Scary looking thing

could this be a young Osage Orange? the 'bark' does not look very tree-like, the stump is gray about 10 inches up and then branches out into these tenatcles. It is about 6 ft tall, but no main trunk, located in eastern Va.
Thanks!

Well thanks, looks like it alright. Is it contagious? O.K. kidding about that.
My friend bought a really cute log cabin, but the yard is horribly overplanted, this is about 2 1/2 ft from a kind of big cedar tree on one side and a forsythia hedge about 2 ft on the other side.
I volunteered to help sort it out. There is a 4 ft square with a Nandena, pyracantha and an azalea.
Thanks for responding so fast.

Poncirus trifoliata is one of those plants recommended for situating below your windows to discourage burglars and intruders.

Well it would certainly work for that!
