Maybe Solanum capsioides, devil's apple?

The leaves look most like S. tampicense.

Mahonia trifoliolata?

on this pic.. the question might be whether the red berries are related to the plant in question ...

a clear pic might help

I see several out-of-focus little tomato-ish flowers (upper left in particular), so I seriously doubt it's a mahonia.

[The leaves are a dead ringer (considering the blurriness) for Solanum carolinense, which I am unfortunately all-too-familiar with. But the berries are wrong.]

I did not see the flowers till you pointed them out! ... Well the nightshade (solanacea) family makes sense if this has lots of tomato plant features.

EDIT: Egads. Just looked it up and Carolina Horsenettle is horrible! Glad I have had no occasion to meet up with it.

It's a Solanum. Are there any other pics of this one? A clearer image may help in the ID.
