yes.. you will need a pic of the flower for an ID ...

RE: type of rose?

Yes - that appears to be a rose hip. As Ken says, the flower will id it.

RE: type of rose?

the rose.. can probably be pruned down to about 6 inches.. just above some nice fat buds.. and tamed rather quickly ...

and then by fall .. if its worthless get rid of it..

there are too many good high performers.. for you to mess around with some old time piece of carp ..

and for a nickle.. i will tell you how i really feel.. lol

RE: type of rose?

Looking at these picture is like looking at some kind of magic puzzle. Hard to tell what is going on. I looked at that rose for 5 minutes and couldn't find a thorn on it. Then suddenly they all appeared.

I wouldn't cut that rose down until you know what it will bloom like. If it's an old garden rose, it could bloom on old wood. Decide in the spring after it blooms what you think of it. Perhaps it has a nice fragrance. Many old garden roses only bloom once- but they put on a big show and are forgiven.
