Mystery plant from farmer's market

Hello,

Over the summer, I purchased what looks to be a small tree from my local farmer's market in the Raleigh NC area. The person selling it didn't know what it was. They sold it next to various indoor house plants.

The stem is woody and thin, about 12" long. The leaves are dark green, palmately compound, 5-6 leaflets per leaf. Each leaflet is ~3" long, 1/8" thin, and sawtooth-edged with some pointy and some rounded edges. The ends of the leaves are rounded. There is no distinctive smell to the leaves. Tops and bottoms of leaves look the same.

I have attached a picture showing different parts of the plant. This looks vaguely like a false aralia, but the color of the leaves and the veins don't match that of the false aralia.

I appreciate any help in identifying this plant. I am trying to take better care of it, but unfortunately I don't know its exact needs.

Thank you!
