What house plant is this to save it

My friend has 2 of these in her house. Her daddy was trying to peel off brown leaves and a whole limb broke off. He put it in water right away and that's where it has been for two days. She brought it to me today to see if I could do something with it. I don't even know what it is. Will this limb root? Any advice appreciated. Thanks Ash
