The link advised that it prefers rich moist loam and here in my part of FL ....well....the soil is sand, sand and did I mention sand? I have not done ANYTHING with this plant (sorry, that means nature waters it too). I did however remove a lot of the sand pines that were around it and that seems to have encouraged the growth. This property is 5 acres and WAS full of sand pines, live oaks, scrub oaks, etc. Then the hurricanes came through about 8 years ago; complete with tornado; and the end result was a couple of years of cleaning up the mess. Now that I have a pretty much cleared property (don't worry! I saved as many of the trees as I could!) I am looking into how I can make it pretty. This little tree/shrub survived and I'm keeping it. The cat seems to like the shade too!

If you've got the typical sugar sand in North Florida, feed it twice yearly February and mid-September. It shouldn't need supplemental watering except possibly in April in a drought year. I used to garden in Tampa so I know about sand. ;-)

Blooms are insignificant, IE nearly invisible. You'll know it's bloomed once the papery seeds form.
