No way we can suggest something without knowing where you live/or zone you're in. The shrub could be Punica granatum "State Fair" or similar Cv.

I updated my zone, sorry. I'm in zone 9.

Also, we are renting right now and it was here when we moved in. It never died and we never moved it.

Any tips on what I could do to help it if it needs it? I wasn't sure what it was so I didn't know how to care for it.

Probably needs to be moved to a sunnier location if you want flowers and fruit.
