Does anybody know the name of this pepper?
It planted "himself". I believe the seed was in my compost.
The fruit is about 3 inches long.

do peppers come true from random seeds???

as with most fruit and veg... you buy seeds of named variety.. if you want to grow a specific named variety ...

once you rely on rogue seedlings... who knows what you might end up with.. dna and all ....

i am pretty sure.. there is a pepper forum ... wherein you might find the hardcore capsacin [sp???] peeps ...

Almost reminds me of a chili pepper. Cayennes are shaped like that but I'm not sure if they get the big.

It can only be said with certainty that it is a "hot" pepper as opposed to a bell pepper.

A volunteer seed from a hybridized pepper plant will not come true to form. Your pepper has the mixed form of jalapeno, cayenne, or even Anaheim. Hard to know which parent plant it has reverted back to.

But it certainly looks usable. What a bonus!
