They were found about 30 miles north of Austin, TX.

Also, does anyone know if they are edible?

RE: Wild green onion?

If they are onions, they will smell like onions.

They could be some type of lily.

Are the leaves hollow, or flat and solid?

RE: Wild green onion?

They are flat solid. I think they might be leeks. But I'm not sure.

RE: Wild green onion?

I've more than once seen Elephant Garlic growing wild in Travis County.

RE: Wild green onion?

They do look like leeks. And other posters are correct, if it is an Allium of some type there will be the distinct onion or garlic smell.

if they smell like onions they are definitely leeks.

there are other plants that look like this but have no smell that are deadly poison but they don't grow anywhere near austin : )

anyone who would rely on a bunch of strangers online.. to determine what is edible.. might be a bit sorry..

take a local class in edible plants..

ps: i cant touch it.. smell it.. or taste it.. but you go right ahead and eat it.. no skin off my back.. whats that all about.. BE SAFE!!!!

Here is a link that might be useful: onion/garlic are in the allium family.. some are poisonous.. some are not ... felling lucky????

Thanks for your help. My neighbor says they are leeks, I actually gave her a few to cook with. And yes, they do smell like onions.

 o
RE: Wild green onion?

The symptoms listed on your link pertain to Allium poisoning in animals.

RE: Wild green onion?

If it looks like an onion, smells like an onion, it is an Allium, and therefore edible, although not all Alliums taste great, and not at all palatable ones are necessarily palatable at all times of the year, due only to flavor and/or textural issues.
