Not a Peace Lily?? Please Help

Posted by pcarlson1115 none (My Page) on

I was given this plant as a gift, everyone I have asked has said that it looks like a peace lily. I already have a peace lily and it is doing fine so I've been caring for the plant below in the same way.

-watering it once a week when I see a slight droop in the leaves

- placing it in medium indirect light

The plant however is not doing very well so I think it might not be a peace lily. Here are the before and after pictures

Day one

Day eight

I put it out on the porch today, hoping fresh air will help. Does anyone have an ideas? Thanks in advance :)

It does look like a peace lily. Does the pot that it's in have drainage holes? I'd take it out of the pot and check out the soil. Maybe it's too wet. Is it in a spot that gets too hot or too cold?

There's a post with a lot of good info about peace lilies. You could also try growing it a vase w/ marbles and water w/ fertilizer diluted to 1/4th strength.

RE: Not a Peace Lily?? Please Help

It's definitely a peace Lilly. Maybe it's not used to being exposed to light, where was it kept before you got it? All of my peace Lillie's only receive indirect light.

RE: Not a Peace Lily?? Please Help

It definitely is a peace lily. They will wilt very quickly
when they are dry. Every time I buy a plant, or get one
as a gift, the first thing I do is plant it in a larger container.
The garden centers almost always sell plants where they
are rootbound in the container. A peace lily is a very
thirsty plant. Here in Florida all my plants are outside,
I think peace lillies are pretty, but they need complete
shade here. They are a good houseplant in maybe a
half-day or less sunlight.

Good luck

Thanks for all your help. I will move it to a spot with less light and try watering it more than once a week, hopefully that will help.
