Invasive in the sun...but what is it?

It's the first thing up in the Spring. It's invasive in the sun and spreads underground as much as 3' each year. Once the flowers die back, large variegated leaves come up for the rest of the growing season. It wilts in the hot Summer sun, but is very hardy here in zone 6a.

The friend who gave it to me didn't know what to call it. She had it in the shade where it was less invasive.
