Pond Weed

These plants were in a golf course drainage ditch this morning. They were fully submersed, highly branched, and 1-2 feet long. The leaves or leaflets were sharply pointed, but I couldn't tell if they were whorled. It did look like some leaves were single off the main stem. When I tried to lift a stem out of the water for a better photo, it just collapsed. After browsing pond weed photos online, it looked like Potamoogeton pusillus was a possibility. Any other ideas?

Just an idea but maybe a Najas sp. that hasn't quite leafed out fully. Suspect it is something else though.

Lycopus, thanks for the reply. I checked several other options today. The Najas species were on the short list, but now I'm thinking it may be something like Fontinalis antipyretica (Willow Moss), or similar. This one will just have to remain a mystery.

I was actually thinking it could be a moss as well. Close examination of the plant would help. If you see any evidence of fruit or flowers in the leaf axils that would rule out a moss.

Thanks. I might revisit it mid-summer to satisfy my curiosity. Any flowers should be present then.
