I've been curious about this wild plant in my backyard. It is biennial. Only its rosette base grew last year but is now blooming. The leaf is oval and velvety, and the flower seems to be white. Is it some kind of mullein? I would appreciate if anyone could identify this plant.

The plant in the photo appears to be a Veronica sp.

Sorry, I attached a wrong photo. Thank you for your response, Lycopus. Let me try to attach another photo....
|
No, something else - maybe a Boraginaceae.

Thanks for your response, Bboy. I hope it's white borage as you guessed. I'll wait and see for a little more while. The first photo is veronica as Lycopus said, thyme-leaf speedwell.
|
It isn't Borage, white or any other colour. Bboy only said it might be in the same family as borage, Boraginaceae, which covers a lot of different plants. Can you post again when the flowers open and give us some close ups?

Thanks for your response, flora_uk. White borage was my wishful thought. I will try to take a photo of the flowers and post again.

What I wishfully thought of as mullein or white borage was a kind of fleabane, probably eastern daisy fleabane. Silly me!

Thanks for coming back and sharing another picture! Certainly does look like fleabane. They are a pretty sight in wild, unkempt places. FataMorgana

Aster (Daisy) family was another, unstated guess I had. There are many of them that start out looking like your plant in various ways.
