Wild plants at edge of woods

I've seen clumps of plants on recent walks that are 4-6 inches across, with individuals to about 2 inches tall. They have leaves that are opposite, and appear to be perfoliate. Although they look like a succulent at first glance, the leaves are flexible. The stems seem to be trying to reroot intermittently (2nd photo), but those growths aren't at nodes. There also seems to be a flattened, almost orbicular fruit toward the top. These plants are usually in mostly shaded areas that stay damp.

Winter bronzing on Bacopa?

Thanks a bunch saltcedar. Bacopa looks right. But I'll have to wait for flowers to determine species. I thought it was B. monnerii (Smooth Water Hyssop), because of those smooth stems. But that species should have 1 to 3 veins, and some of the leaves in my plants have 5. I'll get the species figured out this fall.
