Unknown Plant with Beautiful Lavendar Flowers

Posted by desertdance So CA Zone 19 (My Page) on

Between the cracks in the rocks is growing this big plant. It is getting no water, and I can't get closer for a better shot.

I hope you can ID it.

I'd love to somehow reach up and clip some cuttings to try to reproduce it.

What is it?

Thanks!

Suzi

You might be seeing two different plants.
The shrub rooted in the crack below and
a smaller one it the upper crack. At least
that's what my eyes are seeing. The one
above looks like a Verbena, foliage and all.

That would make sense because the flower does look like Verbena. Maybe the wind blew a seed there. I may have to purchase some seeds. It's beautiful! There is no other Verbena in the yard.

The leaves of the large plant are different from anything else around. I guess I'll have to watch to see if it blooms a different color.

Thanks!

I still want to know what the plant is. Anybody have an idea?

Desert Willow?

Here is a link that might be useful: Chilopsis linearis

Verbena is excellent for attracting butterflies.

I hope that it is Chilopsis linearis, Desert Willow! Gorgeous flowers!

Wonder how it got into that crack, and I'm glad it did!

Thanks for the ID!
