I hadn't even thought of that, but it looks right. Also, there are a couple of pear trees in the neighborhood, so that would make sense. I'll have to look more closely next time I pass by.

spontaneously appeared.. not good

never saw fruit.. nope.. its an ornamental.. not a 'fruit' tree .. though it does have horrible little fruit [i hope you understand the difference .. they arent eating pears] .. that birds can spread for miles .. hence that above ..

and when you get enough flowers to notice.. they smell like dirty gym socks ...

fast growing.. prone to weather damage... and that is why you dont want it that close to the house....

and no one in the tree forum likes them ...

get rid of it.. before you regret not doing it when you can do it by yourself for free ...

Sounds like I'll be able to tell based on the fruit. The nearest pear tree in the neighborhood does give edible fruit, and when I checked yesterday the flowers looked very similar, so hopefully this isn't the horrible kind (also promising is that the flowers don't smell gross).

I'll have to remove it either way, because it's so close to the house, but I might wait until the end of the season if it looks like good pears are coming.

But if it's not edible fruit, I'll know to take it out immediately. Thanks for the information!
