The notch is not typical. It looks as if there was some physical damage at some stage in its growth. But it won't affect its health.

Given your location it could be a Regina Iris.

These forums have never steered me wrong, so I'll go with iris, but both of the plants have that same notch on every leaf. Thank you!

I was wandering around a nursery yesterday, and saw a plant that reminded me of this thread. I didn't even remember your notched-leaf note, but the plant I photographed seems as though it might match the one in your photo. It was labeled Dietes butcheriana (Wide-leafed Dietes).

Yes, probably something like this rather than an iris.

That looks spot on! Good find :) I guess I'll have to hope for a bloom to know for sure.

So the notch would appear to be a good way of separating Iris from Dietes.
