I am trying to ID this tree, as there are three of them around me and love the "flower". Any help is appreciated.

Perhaps pomegranate. Must be very old.

I'm thinking a Camellia of some variety. Does it look more like a big bush?

I'm going with pomegranate, also.

Funny, I thought pomegranate when I saw it also. I would love it to be a Camellia that grows in the desert heat. But, it never ends up being a pom fruit. Just the flower, which looks almost like a carnation. It is actually a tree and is taller than the house.

There's an ornamental Pomegranate that flowers but doesn't fruit. It's a fairly small tree, though. Can you cut off a flower and take a close-up, in-focus picture of it?

Definitely a pomegranate - go with that.

double flowers often are sterile
that could explaine why you never saw fruits

Yes, fruiting pomegranates have fairly simple flowers.
