2 Unknown Shrubs

Hi. I have two shrubs in my garden that I've been trying to identify for a while, but since they were both cut quite severely back last year so that we could get a new fence, they haven't yet flowered.

It seems I can only upload one picture per post, so I'll have to make 2 posts.
This shrub's leaves have a really pungent smell, if that helps.

This could be another Viburnum or possibly a Cornus. Did you notice any brightly coloured winter stems? The cutting back has, as you say, prevented flowering which would be a real help in the id. Can you do a picture from a bit further back showing the habit? If you upload to Photobucket or similar site you can copy and paste the html code and insert as many pictures as you like into your post.

Here's the picture you wanted.

I can't remember what it looked like in winter, unfortunately.
It seems to me that it's either a Viburnum Farreri, or a Viburnum x bodnantense, judging by the shape and colour of the foliage.
Having said that, I don't remember it losing it's leaves over winter, but it may have done. Don't go into the garden a lot in winter, and I can't see it from the house.

mmm - I'm afraid I'm still not certain. I'm pretty sure it will have lost its leaves. Looks very deciduous to me. Maybe just wait for the flowers (in the winter if it's either of the above).
