What is this? I was clearing out an overgrown garden bed, and I dug up a number of these. Tenacious buggers.

Looks also like it could be a very well established horseradish? At least that's what it reminds me of when I'm trying to dig mine out. Break a stem and smell it.

round up kills tons of it in my yard.. you will rarely dig out all the root .. when you have lots to do ...

its a weed ...

olychick, my first thought was horseradish too, but alas, no horseradish smell. Too bad, I like horseradish!

Yes, it is Rumex crispus or yellow dock. If you wish to know the why of that name, cut open the root. It is yellow. I just harvested a bucketful out of the garden for herbal use.
