Did you put seeds in the pots? What kind?

i cant focus on the leaves well enough ... and the light reflection isnt helping define the edge ..

my dad found them under a tree and potted them, he couldn't decide if they were weeds or plants. since potting them they have opened up. I will try and get a better picture.

Have you compared the sprouts to the tree under which they were found? Your profile says you're in UK, but it might help to know more about where, if you don't think they are babies of that tree.
