Could anyone tell me what the purple flower is in this picture?

Thank you!

Where was the picture taken? And when?

RE: What is this?

Looks like lavender or mexican sage but that is not a great picture to id from...

To me it looks a lot like Caryopteris.

Lets throw Rosemary in as well.

Russian sage comes to mind.

And Nepeta too, depending on the scale. We really need a close up, as you can tell. A lot of plants look like that from a distance.

RE: What is this?

I think nepeta but still too far away to tell. Blooming now?

Thanks for all of the replies. It is a picture I found online and liked the look of the plant and was wondering what it is. I would like to find something that keeps the purple on it and stays small, like 2-3 foot high and wide. I'm in Pennsylvania, Zone 6.

If you can give us the original source URL we might be able to find more clues.

Since the purple is the flowers no plant will keep it permanently.

You might consider Salvia nemorosa 'Marcus'.

It needs full sun and good drainage. Blooms time is about two weeks maybe.

'Keeps purple on it'. -- Go with plastic flowers. LOL!

I also was leaning toward one of the salvias.

I think you might enjoy Angelonia. Comes in 2 shades of purple, or pink, won't get that big in PA, but blooms all summer.

Thanks again for all of the advice. I think I'm leaning towards just going with lavender to get the look I want.... :)

I'd lean toward Nepeta as well. One of the cat mints.

Look them up.

‘Six Hills Giant’ looks to be a good cultivar.
