ID: marsh-like ground cover in a dry city space

It's growing in the space between our sidewalk and the street. It seems to be a very effective ground cover; it just started growing last year, and has already covered about a third of the space. The only things that can grow through it are dandilions and a clover-like ground cover with pretty yellow flowers.

This is not marshland! The ground underneath is 1 inch of coarse mulch, then dirt which is still somewhat moist after recent rains.

Looks like Asarum. If you were in my area, I'd say A. Canadense, but have no idea if it grows where you are.

Those leaves look small for A. canadense. Perhaps A. europaeum, but, again, no idea if that one will grow in your region.

I believe it's Dichondra, a common lawn weed here. I have heard of people using it as a lawn itself in California.

Wow!! Is this *really* Dichondra?!?!?! It has a reputation as being delicate and difficult to raise - this stuff is bullet-proof!! It gets tromped on all the time, couldn't care less!! Amazing... I think I'll just let it grow.

It *does* seem to let certain weeds through easily, as I'm reading on other sites. However, the ones I most want to avoid (various versions of foxtails) seem to shun it, which is fine with me...

Asarum sp. produce bigger, thinner leaves, on longer petioles.
