help identifying, please.

A neighbor gave me a clump of this, but she didn't know what it is. I'd like to know before planting, wanting to avoid something taking over the garden.

the first clue.. is whether she started this from seed.. in that pot..

or dug it out of her garden ...

and if she dug it out.. then obviously.. it seeds in her garden...

and she would be the best source of info as to how vigorous it is.. in that regard ...

aka: coral bells ...

never saw a seedling in my a5 MI ...

That doesn't follow, Ken. She could well have just dug a piece off a clumping perennial. The first clue in iding something is not the provenance but the appearance. If the appearance doesn't tell you straight away then you start checking other clues.

Heucheras don't 'take over'. They clump up steadily but not particularly fast. They do not run or seed copiously and they are fairly short lived.
