| The attached image of a leaf is from a tree in my neighbors yard in Lehi, Utah. She keeps telling me the tree is a lace maple, but I can't find any tree by that name on Google.
It's a beautiful tree, probably 60-80 feet tall in her backyard. I am moving to a new place and would love to plant one if I can figure out what it is. She tells me it has very small black seeds in the spring. Hopefully with the picture of the leaf someone has an idea. If anyone would like me to get a closer look of the tree to get any specific details I have permission from my neighbor to go in her backyard and examine it. Thanks! |

| It could be Acer palmatum, Japanese Maple, but I don't recognize the cultivar. If you don't get an answer here try the Maple Forum. |

| Acer palmatum is sometimes called lace leaf maple but can Acer palmatum reach 60 feet? And it doesn't have small black seeds. And this tree produces seeds in the spring??? That's a bit weird. More pictures would be very useful. A shot of the whole tree, a shot of the bark and a shot of a twig showing leaf arrangement and buds. And if you could find some of those 'seeds' that would be good. |

| The seed description doesn't fit at all, but otherwise I would say it is a cultivar of Silver Maple (Acer saccharinum). |
|
| I will try to get some more pictures today and try to estimate the height a bit better. If I see my neighbor I'll ask her again about the seeds. It's highly possible I misunderstood what she was telling me about them. |

| Probably calling the flower buds "seeds". The actual fruits are the typical winged samaras ("helicopters") of maples. As you have seen there silver maple is a big tree. It can also be brittle, prone to breakage. Don't plant one unless you have a place where it can grow with nothing around it that would be damaged if it started to fall apart. |
