Looks a bit like a Sumac, but it could also be the invasive Brazilian pepper tree. Have you ever seen any blooms or fruit on it?

I would say water hickory, Carya aquatica. The leaflets are curved like pecan (another type of hickory), but a little thinner and lacking teeth on the edges. Normally found in wet areas (the hickory nuts float), but I've seen it elsewhere.

@esh:_ga I haven't noticed it blooming, but this tree is in an area that I don't live so I don't see it that often.

@texasflip I will have to check that out, the tree is in a very dry area so water hickory may not be it though.
