Kale or some other brassica that's bolted.

It's a second year brassica, they seed on their second year and the seed pods are typical. I grew cabbage for seed. Planted it last fall, overwintered it in the g'house under controlled conditions just above freezing, and am harvesting seeds now and the 'beans' on my cabbage look just like this. It's prolly your kale.

It is certainly a bolted Brassica, but all the kale I've ever seen has yellow flowers. Can you show the lower part of the plant - we can only see the leaves on the flower stalk and they are usually a different shape from the main leaves.

Chinese broccoli (gai lan) looks like that when it's bolting.

thanks everyone, the leaves you see are the bottom ones. thats the only leaves it has. I did buy sprouting kale i think could it be that? I thought Kale was suppose to grow a lot taller so you harvest the leaves but the leaves only come up a foot or 2 off the ground. Can i harvest the seeds for next year?

I just double checked the packets i had and it looks like it is Green Lance (Chinese Broccoli) can u tell I don't grow green very often! I am guessing you cant eat it once it's bolted

Sure you still can eat it! Just won't be as tender or tasty. You could save the seeds once the pods have matured & use it for sprouts in winter for some extra vitamins!
