Help! Identify this plant please!!

I have this house plant but I can't identify it. Some of the leaves broke off this morning while I was trying to transport it and I need to look up how to take care of it/fix it. Can anyone tell me what it is? The underside of the leaves are red and they remind me of a water-lily. Thanks!

Here is a second image of the broken leaves that I put in a cup of water this morning.

It's a rhizomatous begonia. Looks like Beef Steak Begonia, Begonia x erythrophylla. The broken off piece should root if you insert it into a pot of damp, but not wet, compost.

That white stuff on the soil in the pot looks like salt deposit build-up. Suspect the pot has no drain hole. If so, and I were devising a recipe of how to kill this plant, that pot would be the first ingredient.

Awesome! This is SO helpful! I can't thank you enough. I'm going to transfer it to a new pot with proper drainage and will look up how to take care of beefsteak begonias :)

There's also a Begonia forum if you develop any questions, or just want to read some of the discussions there.
