sedge ID please?

This is one of the taller sedges around here....about 6"-12" across and about 6" tall. (Northern VA, Appalachians, cove forest)

A second plant...growing next to the first...I think it's the same species but this one is not flowering...they are roughly the same size.

Something in the section Ovales. It is a bit immature at this point.

Thanks Lycopus....but there are 72 species in there...how long will it take before I can narrow it down a bit :) ?

Fruit needs to be mature, maybe a couple weeks.

Unfortunately I'm not going to be around here in 2 weeks and will be gone for most of the summer so I wondered if you could give me a wild guess...if it helps, I have noticed that there is a very narrow (for lack of the correct term) leaf blade that is attached at the bottom of the each inflorescence.. please see pic...

That would be considered a bract.

Best guess is C. scoparia
