Rhus with Purple Flowers

This large shrub appears to be Rhus copallinum, because the leaves are winged. That species is wide-spread in our area, and currently has white flowers with green and yellow tones. I've never seen one before with bright purple flowers. Is this another species, a commercially produced hybrid, a naturally occurring form, or something else?
