 o
New gardener- should I pull these?

Hi everyone,

After many years of dreaming, my husband and I finally purchased a home with a .75 acre backyard, and the people who owned it before us apparently enjoyed gardening. We've got grapes, strawberries, a peach tree, a cherry tree, an apple tree, and more flowers and shrubs than I can count. They also already had an area fenced and designated as the garden.

When I got in there to begin my own garden in May, I found that there were two rows of what appear to be onions already growing in there and several of these plants below. Initially I assumed they were just weeds, but I haven't been sure enough to just pull them.

I'm hoping you can help me!

The close-up of the leaf is from the pic of the vertical plant. The really tall skinny one kind of looks like monster onions? The last picture is more like shrub, that she had growing near the grape vines.

I've linked my photobucket with the pictures.

The last picture is Sorrel. The second could be Allium fistulosum - Welsh onion. The first might be a dogwood, maybe a bird sown seedling, but I'm not sure about that one.

Googling

Thank you so much for the response. I had never heard of Sorrel, so of course I googled it. I read that very young, it can be used in salads or cooked like spinach, but then it gets bitter. I am still trying to figure out if these plants I have are considered young or too old! Ha!

Sorrel is a perennial so 'young' just means the early foliage each year. Doesn't even have to be that young. You can cut down the flowering stems and you will get new leaves. You can just cook up the leaves to make a green sauce for fish. Also makes a great soup.
