I've been searching for mature ash trees...could this be a mature ash leaf?

Fata? Saltcedar?

That or a hickory based on the appearance of the leaflets. Can't see it in the image but ash have opposite leaves.

Yup, you're right lycopus...now I am getting confused. Most of the leaves are composed of 5 leaflets which would make it a shagbark?...but then the leaves are not hairy underneath. Probably can't go by bark because tree is very young.

The link below can maybe help you in the ID.

Besides the keying info, shagbark hickory leaves look like they are on steroids compared to ash leaves. The leaflets are fewer but monster-sized - relatively speaking. Young shagbarks have a gloriously smooth bark, unlike the mature trees. So few trees have trunks that feel this smooth that it does stand out. They are a wonderful tree and one of my favorites!
