Still trying to find Plantain. This really looks like it to me but there are so many different kinds. Please help if you can. Thanks. :)

I just looked at the USDA database of Plantago sp. you might find in Mississippi. All of them appear to have a basal rosette of leaves with a flower stalk arising from the root, not from stems of leaves. And the leaves do not have real stems (petioles).

Here is a link that might be useful: species of plantain by state

Maybe something similiar to Saururus

Here is a link that might be useful: Saururus

Agree with Saururus cernuus. Around here I would consider it to be a neat find but it might be more common where you are.

Thanks so much. Looking at at the images I found for it online, you are correct. I guess I will never find Plaintain but wow what an adventure with all these other plants. :) Thanks everyone!

I thought Season9k found that pic online and linked to it so we knew what the search was on for.

Yeah, me too. The lawn, the drive, the flower beds. I don't think I've ever seen one not in disturbed ground.

RE: Plantain?

I have noticed in at least a couple of your posts that you are finding plants near water that you think are Plantain. In my region, Plantain grows in dry, poor soil, along pathways and where there is foot traffic. Try looking a little closer to civilization and I think you'll have better luck.

RE: Plantain?

Definitely look around where people live. It is called "white man's foot" after all. ;)
