Is this Esperanza?

Our sprinkler valve developed a pinprick leak which started spraying a needle-thin spray of water next to our garage. The ground there has been barren for years, but after a few months, two of these unidentified plants sprouted up. They were so different and interesting I didn't fix the hole and let them grow to what they are now. The plant is about 4 feet tall and about 1" thick at the base. They are growing on a west facing wall and is shaded for half the day. The leaves are smooth edged and all the pictures of esperanza, and it's wikipedia entry saw they are jagged. We live in the desert, so these plants popping up out of nowhere are quite strange.
