What is this giant bush in my yard?

Hello,

I have a giant bush in my backyard. It has red berrie on it right now and I want to trim it down. The first step is to find out what it is so I know the best way to trim it down. It is very overgrown and in the 5 years I have lived in this house I haven't touched it.

Here are the pictures. Hopefully someone knows what it is. I am in Wisconsin. Thanks!

Looks like one of the weedy shrub honeysuckles, perhaps Lonicera morrowii.

Here is a link that might be useful: Lonicera morrowii

I would totally get rid of it for two reasons. It is an invasive, so that the birds eat the berries and then deposit the seed with some natural fertilizer where ever they go. These can be a real problem in wild areas as well as your neighbors' yards, and this may be how your plant originally arrived. In the two places I have lived for long periods (NH and OH) this plant was a problem in wilder areas.

It also sounds like this plant is much bigger and wilder looking than you want, and trying to keep this shrub smaller and looking tidy will take work on your part since it will always want to be growing back to this huge size. You would do better to find a shrub that will grow happily at a size that you want without needing severe pruning on a regular basis. There are much nicer plants that you could have there.
