...or weathered log.

A friend asked me for the identity of this flowering plant. Thank you for helping us.

Perhaps some type of Dierama.

Where is this growing? When was it taken? Can you get a close up of the flower? From a distance it could be Schizostylus coccinea (there are pink ones) but that blooms in Autumn here.

Hi, Flora.

This is growing in northwest Washington State in the U.S. I'll ask my friend for a closeup. Thank you for your help!

I don't know what it is, but I looked up Dierama, since I hadn't heard of it before. Wish it was hardy here!

it reminds me of a crocosmia.

The closeup provided from my friend didn't have any open flowers, but it did look remotely similar to flora_uk's suggestion of Schizostylus coccinea. So, rather than trouble you with that photo, I sent a link to images of S. coccinea to my friend to see if she thought that it is a match. She believes that it is!

Thank you, everyone, for your participation! Thank you flora_uk for helping my friend get a better understanding of how to bloom this plant. The plants in the original photo was what inspired her to plant some in her garden, where they have hardly bloomed. I told her that getting the proper ID would allow her to provide the plant a better culture.
