Theses are two wild looking shrubs in my new yard. They are both flowering white now in early June. They are both in the shade of trees.

Looks like Mock-orange and privet.

First one is a keeper; I wouldn't give 2 cents for the second one (agree with carol's identification).

Any benefit to the privet? I just read somewhere that birds eat the fruit (I'm a big bird lover)? It's tucked away in an area that doesn't get seen much.

Or I should say, any drawback to the privet? Is it invasive or will it spread wildly?

Most privets are invasives.

Here is a link that might be useful: Ligustrum sinense Lour./Ligustrum vulgare L.

Yes, they are quite invasive in my area; not sure about yours. Birds do better with native plants because they support the eggs of caterpillars and the caterpillars are a source of food for the birds. Berries aren't half of what birds eat compared to bugs.

You have two of the bushes I have growing wild in my yard. I also agree with the IDs. Some of the few I know.

The privets are used in cold climates as a decorative bush. They do not usually spread because they are not grown to flower but cut in ball shapes or used as hedges.

The Mock Orange spreads also but slow and it is easy to pull out when you see them. If you want to shape it up to make it prettier I shape mine as soon as it finishes blooming. If you cut it too late you will not get the blooms the following Spring. It should be extremely fragrant. Mine I can smell 20 feet away.

Natural graceful habit the best you are going to do with this mockorange. Do not try to make it into a ball or anything like that.

Absolutely, no ball shape Mock. When it starts to look like a monster with a thousand walking legs, and arms in every odd direction...... I do a neaten up clipping.
