What is your question? Those pictures look like water lilies. Lotus are tropical. Are you in tropical area?
|
South Mississippi,(close to the coast) I think we are considered tropical. "The Coastal and Tropical South region follows its namesake bodies of water and extends inland as far as the sea's influence moderates the climate. The Gulf Coast bends upward from Brownsville and Laredo Texas, east across southern Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama to the Florida panhandle and northern Florida. The Lower Atlantic Coast draws a narrower swath along coastal Georgia and South Carolina to the North Carolina border. The tropical areas include Central and Southern Florida and the Florida Keys. The Coastal and Tropical South region is solidly subtropical and tropical."

Perhaps your picture is of Nymphaea odorata. It does not look like Nelumbo lutea (which is sometimes called American Lotus)to me.

Seasons9k, make sure you include that that definition and map are for growing conditions only, as geographically those places are not in the tropics. You have to be between approx. 23 degrees N. and S. latitude to be geographically tropical.

Thanks mytime!

Flora by Lotus do you mean Nelumbo? They're not just tropicals....

Yes, I meant Nelumbo - I stand corrected on the tropical bit. I was using it more as a climate description than a strict geographical definition. I've only seen them growing in hot steamy places.

"I've only seen them growing in hot steamy places." At least in Summer the eastern half of North America certainly qualifies. ;-)
