Sorry, should have mentioned where I'm at (especially since my best guess on this is a palo verde). I'm in the southwest, NW NM.

Do palo verde trees have brown trunks like this? Most of the pics I've seen have green trunks, but a few look dark. The new branches you can see are green.

It looks like a Thornless Honeylocust.

It could be a honey locust, variety Sunburst. This tree is thornless and new growth tips are golden, gradually turning darker green. It's readily available at nurseries. Bob

Huh, I didn't realize there was a thornless Honeylocust. I believe that is right. And Bob, you're right on with the variety, Sunburst. The foliage goes from yellow to green and back to yellow.
