Hey everyone, Soo sorry if this is a double-post :/ I thought I posted this before, but I'm not seeing it. I'm obviously new to the forum...I am (perhaps not as obviously?) also very new to gardening. I'm wondering if this is (distressed) lavender? Does anyone know why it would be lying flat like this? We didn't step on it or anything...

Perhaps it's a Salvia. I would cut off the spent flower stems so that it may flower again.

Lying flat can be a number of things. Too little sun Too much water or fertilizer. Or a storm may have knocked it down. Adding your location may aid in ID and explanation for it's lax habit. |

I just found out I'm in Zone 5 sorry guys. Harsh harsh Wisconsin winters and 2years plus of neglected garden...(not clearing away old foliage) etc. I'm not sure where to start with this thing. Today I removed all that bearded iris you see pictured behind it. This has given me great access to the base of this plant and if there's anything I can do to help it, I would like to. I'm including another pic which shows the base of the plant a bit more clearly

Yes, it's a sage. One of the types like Salvia nemorosa.

So, why is laying all droopy like that? That's not normal, is it? What can I do to fix it? Is it beyond all hope?

I would cut it back to 6-8".

How much light does this plant get? Often too little light will cause floppiness in Salvias in which case you would need to move it to a sunnier area. The seedheads may be heavy enough to cause the floppiness. Was it floppy before blooming?
