what a mouthful...I think I'll just stick to buttercup family...I think it's in this family but which species?

Looks like something in the Apiaceae. Perhaps Osmorhiza, although the fruit usually split when they are mature.

Yup, I think that's it, Lycopus! Now, which is it...claytonii or longistylis :)?

Osmorhiza claytonii has hairy stems. The other one is often but not always smooth. It's easier to tell them apart when they are in flower because O. longistylis has a longer style.
