How about a picture of the entire plant? I think it what is called a 'Martha Washington' geranium in these parts. Botanical name-Pelargonium domesticum.

P.S. A 'wild' geranium is actually the true geranium. It is not wild, it is the true type. The plant that is called a geranium is actually a Pelargonium.

Malva zebrina?

Thank you all! Here's a photo of the whole plant. The leaves do look something like the "garden variety" geranium - only much larger, thinner, and smoother.

And the flowers are edible!

The plant in the picture is Malva sylvestris 'Zebrina'. A cultivar of Common Mallow. It appears to be indoors in the photo. That isn't necessary. In fact it will be detrimental. The plant is bone hardy, as you say, and needs to be outside in the ground.

Musk mallow is Malva moschata. Not the same species.
