Name That Plant!

Anyone know what kind of tree this is?

Hi,

We bought our home with this tree already planted in the back yard. The limbs grow very fast, maybe 18-24" per season and the leaves are very soft and feel of velvet. Also, the under side of the leaves have what feels like an elastic strap, almost like a shower cap, and it causes the leaves to curve under. Any help would be much appreciated!

Sure looks like it could be a paulownia to me. If it is, you might want to read about it to see if it's a selection you want in your back yard.

Agree it looks like Paulownia tomentosa, maybe check to see that it isn't a problem invasive in your area, but the blooms are gorgeous if this tree is winter hardy for flower buds in your zone.

Leadguitarist, if you are FAR north in Illinois it may not be invasive. Then again the one in our botanical garden looks like crud all the time.

Plant Round Up it, cut it down, Round Up again, wait till fall and plant a Catalpa in its place.
