Here's another pic of the sprouts that are coming up everywhere! Fata Morgana is correct about poplars...those are everywhere too along w/the millions of trees of heaven but these seedlings in the pic just *seem* more invasive....can't say why...just a hunch. Also they don't have toothed leaves...don't ashes have teeth?

The green ash trees around me often have that purplish tinge on the new growth. I think it's an ash.

P.S. Ash leaves, which are compound as you can see, are arranged opposite one another on the stem. Since more trees are alternate than opposite, this may help with identification.

Thank-you esh! Now what to do w/too many ashes? Let them grow, cut them? I guess I'll just focus on the heavens...got my hands full w/those things! I think the previous owners cut down a bunch of huge trees of heaven w/out regard for what these trees would do in the aftermath!

What to do with too many ashes? I fear that will not be a concern here in NY State in the too near a future even though at least 1 out of every 15 trees in NY state is an ash. The emerald ash borer is here. Pray they can stop the bug before it makes it to your location because it may be our generation's "dutch elm disease."

If you have a lot of ash in your location, you may wish to educate yourself on the EAB.
