Beautiful Plant but what is it?

I live in the middle of the city and can name most of the plants I see in the neighborhood (mostly because they all came from the same store) I found this guy a few weeks ago, it has a sudden growth spurt and now looks like this. A few of my friends are worried that it's a poison ivy plant, but I'm not convinced. It doesn't have a fuzzy stem, the leaves aren't green (except at the bottom) and they don't all grow in the normal 3s.

Don't think it is the dreaded P.I. Perhaps a box elder? And red probably from stress - I would be both red and stressed in the sun in a field of #1 gravel. ;)
