| I've just started renting a house near Seattle, WA and was given full reign regarding the backyard. The backyard was not taken care of very well and has some beds but I'm new to gardening and not sure of what these plants are and what I should keep or get rid of. Could you name some of these for me?

| #1 Is Dock weed. Pull it out. #3 might possibly be Gladioulus. If not still looks worth hanging on to see what it is. #4 looks like a potato plant. #6 looks like a Rhodedendron. #8 is Lobularia maritima, Sweet Alyssum. |
| Typo there, sorry. #6 should read Rhododendron. |
| Well, it seems like I have messed up with the numbers. Those were going by the photos that Saltcedar kindly put up for us. It appears one is missing so these were out of order, now corrected: #5 is the potato plant #7 is the Rhododendron #9 is Lobularia |
| Usually I have to try to make the pics larger to see detail...LOL, I had to make these smaller! Your #5 is a potato. #3 appears to be an iris. #4 and 8...a cranesbill...Geranium sp.? #7...I think it's in the Rhododendron genus. #9...look at pics of sweet alyssum, Lobularia maritima |
Here is a link that might be useful: Here's #4
| Thanks for the help guys! Haha for making them smaller. It's what I get for taking pics with a DSLR. I'll have to try elsewhere for what #2 is... It really is everywhere. To me it is a weed but now my curiousity has been peaked. Is there a reason why the one geranium (#8) is as bright red as it is? |
| #3...glads didn't even enter my mind...if that plant is the same as you have as #24 in your photo album, I think it is a gladiolus. #6...good excuse to introduce yourself to your neighbor! Something in the Rubus genus, I would think. |
| It just occurred to me that the last one is probably Limnanthes douglasii (Poached egg plant) Dee |
| Some geranium turn red in the fall, some at the end of the blooming season. You might look at G. robertianum...I can't tell from your pics how large the flowers are. |
| my bad I missed a couple. |
| Compare the plant in the second picture to Epilobium hirsutum or other Epilobiums. |
| Using the order as posted by Salt: 1. Rumex sp. - Dock* * - would be considered weeds. The blackberry may or may not need an * too, depending on whether it was deliberately planted, is in a good/bad position and/or yields decent fruit. |
