Name That Plant!

What is this crazy spiked brain-looking plant?

This plant appeared in the front yard right next to the driveway. It is a long (maybe 2 1/2 ft) single stem, no leaves, with a purplish blob covered in green spikes. It really is unusual and beautiful up close. If you know what it is, can you tell me if it can be transplanted because we would like to save it and it really doesn't seem like it is in the best location...

Allium vineale. The flowers frequently get replaced by little plants. There might be more in the lawn.

I don't know if the species is the same or not, but bulb companies sell something that looks just like this called Allium 'Hair'. Might be better behaved than Allium vineale, which I suspect would be pretty aggressive in a garden. And I don't think A vineale always looks like that, usually they just have the little bulbs at the top.

I like Allium. There are bunches in purple shades in various sizes. Some pop up in the spring, others of mine are flowering as late as this week.

I put their purple next to my yellow metasequoia ogon.
